BMW PARTNERS WITH MOMENTA TO DEVELOP CHINA-EXCLUSIVE INTELLIGENT DRIVING SYSTEM

Published on

July 15, 2024 (Beijing) – BMW Group announced a strategic partnership with Momenta, a top-tier Chinese autonomous driving firm, to co-develop a China-exclusive intelligent driving system for its upcoming Neue Klasse models and other local-production vehicles. The collaboration marks BMW’s most significant tech alliance in China this year, targeting end-to-end navigation assist covering highways and urban roads.

Why Momenta? Data + Trust
Beijing Momenta(https://www.momenta.cn/en)dominates China’s L2+L4 market with 800,000+ km of validated road data – a cache trusted by Mercedes, GM, and Toyota. BMW’s choice reflects “equal-tier” prerequisites: tech compatibility + brand prestige to ensure user confidence.

Momenta

  • Safety First, Fun Follows
Unlike rivals “obsessed with petaflops,” BMW-Momenta’s system prioritizes driver-in-the-loop engagement, blending:
    • “Control Super Brain” (merged powertrain/chassis domain control)
    • Panoramic iDrive (human-centric HMI)
    • Momenta’s AI risk-prediction models
  • Expanding “China Tech Circle”
The deal extends BMW’s local alliance web (Alibaba/Huawei/ByteDance) but shifts focus from infotainment to core automotive tech – signaling deeper roots in China’s innovation ecosystem.
