HUAWEI’S LATEST EV PLAY: SAIC’S SHANGJIE UNVEILS FIRST MODEL TEASER, SETS Q4 LAUNCH

Published on

JULY 11, 2024 – Shanghai SAIC Group and Huawei’s jointly developed smart EV brand “SAIC Shangjie” has taken the wraps off its first vehicle, marking the fifth member of Huawei’s Harmony Smart Drive (Hongmeng Zhixing) family.

The new model – slated for a Q4 2024 debut – will be priced between CN¥180,000-250,000 (US$25,000-34,600), making it the most affordable offering under Huawei’s premium smart car ecosystem.

Richard Yu, Huawei’s Managing Director and CEO of Consumer BG, amplified the hype by reposting the teaser with a cryptic message: “Shangjie steps up! Stay tuned this autumn. Smart driving? Just watch for the blue light!”

What We Know So Far

Budget Harmony Smart Drive Entry
Positioned as a mid-to-high-end intelligent EV, the Shangjie brand targets young professionals and families, promising Huawei’s full-stack smart mobility tech at a mass-market price.

No Frills, But High-Tech?

  • Spy shots reveal a rounded SUV design with a conventional mechanical door handle (unlike flush-mounted competitors)
  • LiDAR setup confirmed on the roof
  • Emphasis on “simplicity and safety” – likely undercutting flashier rivals

Huawei’s “5th Boundary” Play
Shangjie joins AITO (Wenjie), LUXEED (Zhijie), STELATO (Xiangjie), and STELLAR (Zunjie) as the latest brand in Huawei’s expanding EV empire.

Editor’s note: With BYD and Tesla dominating the sub-CN¥250,000 market, Huawei and SAIC are betting big on software-defined differentiation – leveraging HarmonyOS cockpit and advanced ADAS to lure buyers away from those OEMs.
