June 23, 2025 (Beijing) – Great Wall Motors today launched the Shanhai Pao Hi4-T, the world’s first hybrid off-road pickup, with prices ranging from USD$ 31,894 (performance variant). The diesel-powered Shanhai Pao 2.4T global versiton is cheaper, also debuted at $27,015 (RMB 193,800).


Hybrid Powertrain for Dual Scenarios
The Hi4-T combines a 2.0T turbocharged engine with a P2 electric motor and 9-speed hybrid transmission, delivering 300 kW (402 hp) and 750 N·m of torque. It offers three drive modes:
- BEV: 115 km (71 miles) NEDC range (37.1 kWh battery)
- Hybrid: 1.7 L/100 km (138 mpg) fuel efficiency
- Intelligent: 1,000 km (621 miles) total range
Off-road features include BorgWarner’s 4A+Mlock four-wheel-drive system and optional front/rear differential locks.

Utility and Safety
The model introduces 6 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) power output for external devices and a 220V/2.2 kW cargo bed outlet. Safety credentials include dual 5-star ratings from C-NCAP and A-NCAP, with battery packs mounted high on the frame (400 mm ground clearance) to prevent off-road damage.

Diesel Variant Targeting Global Markets
The 2.4T diesel variant, features a 135 kW (181 hp) engine with 480 N·m of torque, optimized for extreme conditions like high-altitude operation (maintaining 400 N·m at 4,700 meters).
Global Expansion Strategy
Great Wall Motors stated the launch aligns with its plan to expand electrified pickups worldwide. The company aims to introduce multiple new energy pickup models by 2026.
